KS3: Years 7 & 8

  • Simple culinary skills
  • Nutrition and Healthy Eating
  • To research similar products
  • Sensory analysis and evaluation of existing products
  • Short focused practical tasks
  • Planning, designing and making food products.

KS4: Years 9-11 (GCSE)

In KS4, the following topics are covered:

  • Industrial practices including CAD/CAM
  • Focused culinary skills
  • Hygiene, Health and Safety
  • Nutrition & Dietary needs
  • Research, design and specification
  • Prototype development & modifications; manufacturing.
  • Product evaluation
  • Marketing
  • Quality control
  • The effects of production on the environment
  • Specialist Food software programes.

The use of information technology in industry is demonstrated in the workshop with the use of computer assisted design and manufacture, and the use of computers in quality control and a sale is also explored.
