Student Welfare & Support

Our school cares about the whole individual. Hasmonean is a supportive school where each child's welfare and well-being are central to the work we do. Individual care is extended to each child in a range of ways and there is always an adult to turn to, should the need arise. It is our belief that without good self-esteem and support when and where it is needed, children cannot fulfil their academic potential in the classroom.

The first point of contact for students at Hasmonean is the form tutor. He or she will know them well and is there to help monitor their personal and social development throughout the course of a school year.

Students may also request to see a trained counsellor available on each of the school sites. Counsellors provides a caring and completely confidential service.

In order to assure further the academic and social welfare of Hasmonean students, both form tutors and subject teachers consult regularly with Heads of Year. We ensure that individual students who require additional guidance and support are assisted in every way possible.

At the Boys' School, the welfare and support team is further strengthened by the Section Mashgichim, which has a role similar to that of the Heads of Year in after school and Sunday morning Jewish Studies programmes. Heads of Kodesh on both sites are available to discuss students' progress and achievement in Jewish Studies with their parents.

At Hasmonean, we consider it to be of paramount importance to be full partners with parents in order to ensure that our students achieve their potential. To this end, we keep in touch via regular written Records of Achievement, as well as holding Consultation Evenings with subject teachers and Induction Evenings for Years 7 and 10. We encourage parents to become closely involved in the process of supporting and guiding children, especially those who need some extra support along the way.
